A custom lanyard looks simple, but a good order comes down to a handful of decisions made in the right order: the fabric, the print method, the attachment hardware, the length and width, and the quantity. Get those right and everything else — artwork, proofing, and delivery — falls into place. The guides above walk through each decision in detail; this page is the map that ties them together.
If this is your first order, read the material comparison first and then the pre-order checklist. If you are re-ordering for a company or a recurring event, the employee ID lanyard guide covers the hardware and durability choices that matter most for everyday wear.
Match the material to how the lanyard will be worn
The single biggest driver of comfort, print quality, and cost is the webbing itself. Polyester is the value standard and reproduces full-colour artwork crisply through dye-sublimation. Nylon feels softer and more premium and holds up to repeated washing. Cotton and recycled PET fabrics suit brands that want a natural hand-feel or a credible eco story. Our material guide compares all five on durability, feel, print sharpness, and price.
Confirm hardware, length, and safety before printing
Attachment hardware decides how a badge or card actually clips on: a swivel J-hook, a bulldog clip, an oval clasp, or a plastic buckle. A standard neck lanyard is about 90 cm doubled — roughly 45 cm hanging — and common widths are 10, 15, 20, and 25 mm, with wider webbing giving more room for a logo. For staff who pass through gates or work near machinery, a safety breakaway is strongly recommended.
Know the lead time and how bulk pricing works
Full production typically runs about two to three weeks once artwork is approved, and a physical sample takes about one to two weeks depending on the current queue. Unit price falls as quantity rises because setup and plate costs are spread across more pieces, so it is worth confirming your final quantity before requesting a quote. Every order includes a free digital mockup before anything goes into production.
Custom lanyard FAQ
How long does a custom lanyard order take?
Full production is about two to three weeks after artwork approval, and a physical sample is about one to two weeks. Rush timelines depend on the current production queue, so tell us your target date in the quote request.
Can I see the design before production?
Yes. Every order includes a free digital mockup, and you can request a physical sample before committing to the full production run.
Which lanyard material should I choose?
Polyester for value and vivid full-colour print, nylon for a premium soft feel and durability, and cotton or recycled PET for a natural or eco-friendly look. The material guide above compares all five in detail.
Do you produce both small and large quantities?
Yes. Share your target quantity in the quote request and we will confirm the price band and lead time for that volume — unit price improves as the run gets larger.
